Just chillin' on a late Sunday summery afternoon with a soft breeze and sunlight streaming through the window. With cloudless blue skies outside, it all seems so peaceful, and everything is just swell at this very moment.

Schindler's List ~ Luka Sulic

Been raving on about how spectacular 2CELLOS are. Here's Luka playing the Schindler's List theme. I have to say, despite being a violinist, it sounds so much better on cello - it's deeper and richer without losing that haunting quality.

On a completely different note, for some reason he kind of reminds me of Jensen Ackles aka Dean from Supernatural.

Cherished Moments ~ Jon Schmidt

"Cherished moments" ~ Jon Schmidt (The Piano Guys)
Trying to learn this on the piano, it's such a beautiful song.
Also love the little annotations on his sheet music, really helps guide you through the music, and also the anecdotes. Makes the process of learning a new song so much more approachable.

You can also download the song on iTunes here. :)

2CELLOS

2CELLOS performing 'Fields of Gold'.
These guys are amazing!
Love discovering new music.

Perfect Tripod

Saw these guys last night at the Arts Centre Playhouse Theatre where they graced us with just over an hour of their renditions of Australian songs. Their method of tuning with beer bottles was, I thought, a particularly classy touch. Speaking of classy, they were all suited up, and looking very professional...with beer bottles.

Anyway, alcoholic beverages aside...with the addition of Eddie Perfect's rich and resonating baritone, they form a wonderful a Cappella group. I've followed Tripod for a decade now, since their early Skithouse days, and I used to think what incredible voices they have as a trio. However, since Eddie joined them it's quite clear that Eddie Perfect is the one who really has the trained voice - he really shined throughout the performance Well, given that he went to WAAPA - Western Australia Academy of the Performing Arts - it really shows who's had classical training. Still, I do love Tripod and all their charm and the laughter they bring. But I used to wonder why they found the question "Did you guys have classical training?" amusing. Now it's all clear to me. They're still really brilliant though.

Naturally, with the show being about Australian songs, how could they end the evening without singing our national anthem...John Farnham's The Voice. That was one of the highlights and it was hilarious. The other being Paul Kelly's Middle of the Air - the only really 'serious' song they performed; their voices came together beautifully. There was absolute silence in the theatre throughout that rendition - well I could hear the bloke next to me breathing - but even that didn't detract from the moment. All in all, an excellent show and made for a lovely evening.

Upon exiting the theatre, we spotted Eddie Perfect with a bunch of oldies and overheard one of them telling him "It was slightly better than last night's show". Haha...they exchanged some pleasantries and Eddie rushed off to start signing some merchandise for the ever growing cue. Couldn't be bothered cuing up so we left. But the point is, he gave such a friendly vibe this evening and seems like such a lovely guy despite some of his onstage personas (which I perceived to be just a bit silly to put it mildly, but I guess that's the point).

Neglect

As the title of this post suggests, I've been really neglecting this blog over the past erm...few years?
Not one post in 2012. For shame. In fact, it's only recently that I remembered this existed at all.

Oh well, a new year calls for a new start. Not sure why I'm so inclined on getting back into this again. Perhaps it was going back through my old posts and rediscovering fragments of my life I had forgotten about. The whole process just stirs up a whirl of mixed emotions which is on the whole not a particularly bad feeling. Sure it's sappy and sentimental...Anyway, this will be a record of mine for me...and may or may not make a whole lot of sense for any random stranger who stumbles upon this - and I'm not particularly concerned about them, really. Little subtle things can be significantly associated to so much to one person, while meaning crap-all to another anyway.

One thing I've come to learn is that you shouldn't be so worried about how others perceive or think of you, they don't do it very often! And even more so when it's people who don't know you personally in the void of cyberspace. Most humans can be so self-centered and not many people may realise that that means everyone else is so caught up in their own worlds, there leaves little room for them to scrutinize over your every action. Well, that applies to most people with the exception of high-profile celebrities. But then again, they're not really "people" - in the sense of how they are perceived: many "celebrities" become a brand, an image that sells, something of a surreal two-dimensional character. Anyway, I'm going off on a tangent, I tend to do that a lot, stream-of-consciousness writing. On the topic of writing, I should really be writing some else much more important and work-related. I'm hoping this will get my juices flowing. Well, that's my excuse anyway.

So, my point is, I'll have this up and running again, just as a mental dumping ground for any thoughts, ideas, internal emotion conflicts, whatever. May this be an eventful year ahead.
